I've been working on a new set of 3D garments - challenging myself to raise the bar towards complex patterns in Marvelous Designer and targeting realtime tactile effects in Epic Games Unreal Engine. Tactility for me is to give digital fabrics a real feel
Audio on!
Following previous updates on Virtual Fashion - I have combined all facets of making a dressed Virtual Human in Epic Games Unreal Engine - making the 3D sculpt of my son Daan come alive on a Virtual Set.
It's my belief that Realtime Tech is at the brink of disrupting industries like Fashion, Music, Broadcasting and Advertising. Allowing 'mainstream' creators to step in through automated processes - but also creating new grounds for dinstictive creative artists. Either way; all you need is a computer and a creative mind.
The techniques I used:
-avatar sculpting via CharacterCreator and ZBrush
-hair sculpt in ZBrush, into UE as Groom
-all clothing done in Marvelous Designer
-animation via motion capture in iClone
-all texturing in Substance by Adobe
-materials and scene rendering (couple of minutes) - all in UnrealEngine
This demo marks the end of about 2 years of studying realtime avatars and fashion, starting with zero knowledge about both. From here on I plan to explore more artistic use of Realtime tech, building on foundations I've laid before.
Hope you found my journey interesting so far, stay tuned for lots more!
